1. Who operates MeusMenu

MeusMenu is a recipe collection platform operated by Binary Artisan LLC, created by James L. Craig. We're a small, family-driven operation — building something we're proud of for people who love cooking.

2. What we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

• Account information — your first name, last name, and email address.
• Password — stored as a one-way hash (bcrypt, 12 rounds). We cannot see or recover your password.
• Content you create — recipes, collections, meals, cocktails, and photo submissions.
• Preferences — dietary restrictions, saved/bookmarked recipes, and display settings.
• Photos — images you upload for recipes or submit for review.

We do not collect payment information, physical addresses, phone numbers, or any biometric data.

3. How we use your data

Your data is used solely to operate MeusMenu:

• Authenticating your account and securing your session.
• Displaying your recipes, collections, and saved content back to you.
• Sending transactional emails you initiate (verification codes, password resets).
• Applying your dietary preferences to filter recipes.

We do not sell or rent your personal data. Any advertising on MeusMenu is contextual — based on the page content you're viewing, not your personal information or browsing habits.

4. Cookies & local storage

MeusMenu uses localStorage (not cookies) to store your authentication token and preferences client-side. This data never leaves your browser unless you make an authenticated request to our API.

Our hosting provider (Netlify) may set a minimal session cookie for load balancing purposes. We do not use any tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics scripts that track individual users.

5. Analytics

We use Netlify Analytics, which is entirely server-side. It counts page views from server logs without placing any cookies or scripts on your device. No personal information is collected through analytics, and no data is shared with third-party advertising networks.

6. Where your data is stored

Your account data and content are stored in databases hosted in the United States. Uploaded images are stored via Cloudflare R2, which may cache content at edge locations globally (including the EU) for performance. The website itself is served via Netlify's global CDN.

We do not transfer your data to any additional third parties beyond these infrastructure providers, which process data solely to deliver the service.

7. Data retention & deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

• Your personal information (name, email, password hash, preferences) is permanently removed.
• Private recipes and collections are permanently deleted.
• Public recipes you authored may be retained in anonymised form to preserve the integrity of the collection for other users.
• Photo submissions that were approved and attached to published recipes may be retained.

If you want everything removed with no exceptions, contact us and we will honour that request.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data:

• Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plaintext.
• All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
• Authentication tokens expire after 7 days.
• Sensitive user fields are never exposed in API responses.
• Rate limiting is applied to authentication endpoints.

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it through the in-app support form and we will address it promptly.

9. Age requirement

MeusMenu is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

10. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — everything is visible in your account.
• Correct your data — update your name, email, or preferences at any time.
• Delete your data — request account deletion through the support form.
• Export your data — contact us and we will provide your data in a readable format.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of MeusMenu after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
